General paint conditions of traditional color coated steel in China.
Well, commonly there are 3 paint classes of color coated steel in China, even in the world I would say, top, medium, and low. Accordingly, the quality, which also means color fade resistance is also divided into 3 groups.
First group, Bo xing area, famous for manufacturing thin sheets with very cheap prices. The common standard zinc (mixed with aluminum) coating of small mills is 8-12 grams. Paint, they use low class, the film is mostly “3-4-5”, which means 4 microns primer plus 5 microns top paint on the front and 3 microns primer on the back. Usually the color may fade in 1-2 years.
Large factories can maintain the coating above 20 grams, their paint film is around 5+7 microns on the front and 5 microns on the back, so the price is also higher than that of small mills.
Second group, Hebei province (including Tianjin city). They are good at producing prepainted steel with thicknesses over 0.5mm. (Aluminum) zinc coating above 20 grams and using middle class paint with 5+7 microns on the front and 5 microns on the back. Usually the color won’t fade in 3-5 years.
Third group, Chinese governmental factories. They also like producing thick sheets over 0.5mm. Their coating is not less than 80 grams, using paint form top 10 brands in the world, with 5+15-18 microns on the front and 5-9 microns on the back. The color fade resistance is 8-10 years. As you can feel, the price is much higher as well.
When purchasing color-coated sheets, it is especially important to choose that with good quality paint. And the quality of paint is related to the content and quality of the film-forming resin, which plays a decisive role in paint film performance. Increasing the film thickness can also enhance the quality.
Among the popular colors buyers often purchase, red is the one that fades most easily. If we want to ensure its weather resistance level, there will be an additional price increase. In fact, this situation is difficult to be accepted by the market.
White is the color most likely to occur color difference. Even if it is produced according to the RAL color card, color difference may occur in the same project, the same manufacturer, and the same batch. Sometimes the color difference will be more obvious when observing or shooting at different lighting angles.
Regarding the hardness of the paint film, some customers prefer to pursue a hard one, which is wrong, because if the paint film is too hard, its aging resistance will be poor, powdering may be accelerated and the bending performance will be affected.
During the profiling process, be sure that the roller is smooth and free of impurities, otherwise the paint of the color-coated sheet will easily fall off.
During the construction process, attention needs to be paid to avoid iron filings from splashing on the surface of the color-coated sheet, otherwise rust spots will form when it rains.
